My Favorite Things

I’ve always loved musicals, and although I never saw The Sound of Music, I really like My Favorite Things. I was introduced to it… I am ashamed to say… by a Dove commercial I got to watch a thousand times while catching up on ABC.com replays of my favorite shows, which is how I watch TV in the absence of a TV.
It was there that I got the idea of coming up with my own adaptation (compare to the original version here). Something in the song’s format resonated with me on a deep level as my experience of happiness too is highly tactile. So here goes, my grand poetic endeavor:
Snow boots with lining that’s fuzzy like kittens,
Shotshells and rifles and Thinsulate mittens,
Green tags that tie to a deer ear with strings
These are a few of my favorite things!
Fresh pan-fried trout and chocolate strudels,
Venison jerky and red sauce with noodles,
Yogurty ranch on hot buffalo wings
These are a few of my favorite things!
Heirloom tomatoes and firewood stashes,
Black Angus steers with their pretty eyelashes,
Wisconsin winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things!
When the kids whine,
When the bath stinks,
When I’m feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don’t feel so bad!
Now imagine me singing this in a thick Russian accent…
LOVE it! I think this is what they call talent!
Thanks! My husband too appeared deeply moved.
Wonderful site, love your photos, descriptions, recipes! The Sound of Music is an oldie but certainly favorite of mine. To be a cook/baker you have to be creative, patient, and independent, by george, I think you’ve got it! Life isn’t easy sometimes but we can certainly try to have fun everyday. I find it in cooking and baking, kids are almost grown and off to bigger things but the cats, dogs, horses, husband will stay! Thanks
I am glad you like it, Liz!
